I have an Acard 133 hooked to an IBM 80g ata 100 and I get (according to
TimeDrive 3.0.1 from Lacie).All numbers are in Kilobytes/sec (divide by
1024 for Megabytes/sec for the non geeks)
Maximum Flatline (this is throughput for "large"-8 MB
transfer size)
Read 78,647 45,488
Write 40,545 40,523
The relevant rest of my setup is:
Beige G4 533, 768 meg, Virtual Memory off and a default disk cache of 8160
kilobytes.
Holy Guacamole, Batman!!
I have just run Norton Systemworks Disk benchmark on the above setup and
got speed similar to above. However, the final rating is 3661 (relative to
a 6100/60 at 100). The Holy Guacamole part is that I had previously run the
disk tests on a 28 meg ram disk on my old 9500 (G3 450, 8160 Kb disk cache
and VM off) and got a rating of 2520.
Since the pci bus speed is amost the same for 8500 and beige G3 (The pci
spec is between 30 and 33 mhz bus speed, IIRC) this implies that a fast HD
and ATA card is transfering data faster than ram in a 9500-non
interleaved-does. Can this be correct??
