I've had alot of this problem recently and your two best bets are
FWB HD Toolkit and HD SpeedTools from Intech. I borrowed both programs
(there are no demos available AFAIK) as a last gasp effort to try and
format 4 x Seagate 2gig scsi UW drives which were Compaq OEM. If either
had succeeded I would have bought it but neither did - nor did the hacked
HD Setup. Got rid of the four drives in the end and bought some that were
supported by HD Setup.
If the drive is recognised by scsi probe you should be able to
format it with Toolkit or SpeedTools - I believe you can get a list of
supported drives from their websites. If scsi probe cannot see the drive
the chances of formatting it are much smaller and the hack cannot be
applied as scsi probe supplies the resource info for the hack.
