As one of the two people who got this whole thread going, I have successfully gotten my SCSI issue straightened out. I moved the drives, checked the termination, and rebooted, and now the SCSI chain is working great. Thanks to everyone for the SCSI refresher course.
Next I need to get my firewire working properly. I have two external cases running off a PCI firewire card, and I am having the same kind of problem I was having with the SCSI: when I copy folders over 50MB, the system seems to freeze. The progress bar hangs, the menu clock stops, but I can still move the cursor on the screen? What's up with *that* kind of freeze? The first thing I am going to do is reseat the firewire card, hopefully that will fix it. All this came up when I migrated the guts of my 8500 into an 8600. Let me say again, what a huge inprovement the 8600 case is to deal with. Well worth the $80 at the Salvation Army. Thanks everyone, for all your advice.
