Pete,

I have a Soundblaster Live Mac Edition 5.1, which sounds great but 
leaves a lot to be desired as far as the software. Creative abandoned 
the Mac market after releasing the card and never made much-needed 
improvements to the software. There is no OS X support, though I believe 
some Creative employees are working on it on their own time. I've gotten 
it to behave in my system by disabling one of the extensions.

There's a new 7.1 sound card about to be released for Macs, though 
unfortunately I don't believe it will work in pre-g3 native machines (so 
they say):
