You can BET that if Microsoft had access to the hardware/firmware, they would have blocked each previous OS! They have worked very hard to move as many users as possible to the new OSes as they come out, and I understand the business of moving product. They limit support for the older ones starting 90 ays or so after a release, even though they have a large installed user base. They all but abandoned Win 3.11 users, even though there are huge numbers still using it. I know attorneys who still use 3.11 and Wordperfect 5.
