I have an 8500 that I'm trying to set up for a video machine. My main Mac is a Dual 867 MDD G4 on which I make a lot of VCD/SVCD/DivX. I'm also getting an El Gato Eye TV for it in a few days. I wanted to attach my 180mhz 8500 (In a 7500 case) to the TV and set it up as a multimedia machine in my game room to play all my MP3s, VCDs, and recorded shows over a network. With its stock video card and 10BT ethernet it plays MP3s and MPEG-1 files fine over the network. It doesn't play DivX or MPEG-2 well even from its own drive or from a CD so of course it doesn't play worth anything over the network. I was wondering what could make playback over the network better on this machine? Will giving it a 100BT card help because of increased bandwidth? I have an extra Rage 128 card with DVD Decoder from a dead B&W that I was thinking of putting in the 8500. Although, I figured that it wouldn't really help video performance because it'll be hooked up to the TV and the video out is coming from the onboard video, right? Any suggestions are appreciated.
