USB works well in the PCI Macs.   You must be running OS 8.6 or 9.1. 
The USB card you buy should be marked as Mac compatible and/or OHCI 
compliant.   Look for a 2 port USB card as some 4 port cards are 
known not to work in Macs.   If you are running OS 8.6, you will need 
to download USB adapter card support 1.4.1 from Apple.   I'm not sure 
about 9.1 (I installed it on my machine with the card already 
installed) you may need to re-run the installer and do a custom 
install of just USB support, or it might all be loaded already.
