The background printing option is available with several drivers and
rips and basically 'takes over' the printing so that you can continue
working in the app that you are printing from - so after the print file
is spooled to disk the wp interface becomes active whilst printing
continues in the background. Otherwise with foreground printing the
interface does not become active until printing is complete.
The option for background off or on is in the chooser.
