This sounds like you have 'fixed frequency' monitor.   The resolution 
and scan rate of the monitor is fixed at one size and rate (a cost 
saving measure from years gone by.)  Check with your neighbor to see 
if he knows/remembers what the figures are.   You can also check the 
back of the monitor to see if it is posted there.   A final try would 
be a monitor database

know it, you will need to acquire a monitor adapter (also from 
Griffin) which can set the sense settings on the Mac and force it to 
boot to the correct resolution.   Once this is setup and working, you 
should never have to adjust it.
