This is odd. A couple of times in the past, my Finder file got 
corrupted, and it crashed at this point, but it threw a different error, 
but, hey, it can't hurt:

Boot from a CD (of the same system version that is on your HDD, of 
course) and drag the finder file from the system folder of the CD to the 
system folder of your HDD.
