I'm sure the >7600 and 8600 PCI slots are 2.0, same as my 8500. - Mike >> There isn't a subject for this list that is more "on-topic" but after 2+ days still no real definitive answers, although Jeff D. was helpful and now that you've told me one of your cards is PCI 2.1 and it was working (well?) on a 7600 I can surmise the answer. So I've tweaked the subject line and I will rephrase the question for clarity: To what degree are 2.1 and 2.2 PCI cards compatible with older powermacs with PCI 2.0 slots (which is basically all pre- G3s)? Downward compatibility is the issue. I'm not looking for card specs I am looking for peoples experiences based on their PCI slot specs and cards they use in those slots. This started because I kept hearing/reading about how easy it is to get USB on a non-USB PCI Mac. I asked advice & was told as long as it was OHCI USB 1.1 compliant the card should work (8500/PL G3/384 MB/OS 8.6). Installed Apple card support 1.4.1 and some individual vendors drivers. Card showed up in ASP but didn't work. Could be the G3 upgrade but also didn't realize until that point that the USB card was PCI 2.2 and decided to start there in determining the problem. After searching out the various available PCI cards, they all appear to be PCI 2.1 or 2.2 so I had to wonder if other owners of 2.0 PCI macs found 2.0 cards for their machines or are successfully using the higher specification cards? Especially interested in the people who also have G3/G4 upgrades for those machines. Mike -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
