I have an extra 68 pin hard drive that is not in use right now, and I was

You should have no problem with a 68-pin Seagate Barracuda as is one of the
drives which Apple's Drive Setup explicitly supports.

OTOH, a 68-pin WD (and perhaps some others) won't be supported by DS unless
and until you modify DS to include a "catch all" device type.

The reason for this is an UW-SCSI drive sends a different response to the
"read revice characteristics" command than does a U-SCSI drive, and DS is
smart enough to know the difference.
