That's been my experience. We used SCSI printers at work on PCs and would often have to turn them off and then on to get them working after a jam. Also, my scanner has never had any problems with powering on or off during a session. I have, unfortunately, blown a motherboard with a Zip Drive (didn't realize the computer was turned on). Guess its better safe than sorry, we'll see if I can change my habits. Thanks for all the useful info from everyone! -Lavode> I never had a problem wih powering SCSI devices up and down while the system was running. Sometimes this is the only way to get the system to recognize a device on the chain when it diesn't during start up. Disconnecting SCSI devices while system is running is another story and a big No-No. At a former job of mine, an IS person was helping me out of a crash. She unplugged a Zip drive while the the then brand new 7200 Power Mac was running and my hard drive siezed. All the data was lost and the drive was un useable thereafter. I lost months of work and luckily just the drive and not the entire mobo. This was on a SCSI 1 system. She was a Windows person and said that this was never a problem hot swapping on Windows machines. I thought she was wrong, but never tried it on a Windows machine.
