You do not say which version of Opera you are running. Traffic on the Opera
news group <news.opera.com/opera.mac> seems to indicate that Opera 6 does
not run very well with OS 8.6. Actually the traffic on the news group seems
to indicate that Opera 6 does not run very well on any Mac OS.

I use Opera 5 (the non carbon version). It is a very nice browser and it
runs quite problem free on OS 8.6, 8.1 and 9. Opera has stopped development
on Opera 6 and is working on Opera 7. Recent announcements from Opera say
they are contemplating dropping Mac development entirely. And in any event I
understand that Opera 7 will be OS X only.

If you are using Opera 6 I would encourage you to downgrade to Opera 5.
