well there are other things that can affect the browserspeed, i run a
166mhz, (cause i am too lazy to get a cheap replacement)
with internet explorer 5.1 & OS 8.6, i have an control panel called
FINDER FIXER that increases the amount of memory dedicated to the
finder - i dont think that my mac would start without it -
I run a ramdisk called APPDISK (i have 256 mb of ram) and I place
the cachefolder on that one also my cache automatically get's emptyd
on every restart, how much ram do you have ?
I dont use virtual memory and i have increased the applications
memory in get info.
(I E 5.1 is faster and lighter than 5.0)
i did the same before with netscape 4.08 but switched when it
started to get impossible to get into some sites AND
i have a friend with an imac 266mhz and 32 (! she bought it new and
this was why it had a good price) mb of ram and lots of virtal memory
on and it takes her 5 minutes just to open outlook express,
the reason i switched to internet explorer is that i want the clean
browser without mail and composer and timemanager functions. Netscape
4.08 was extremely fast though... and you could steal background
patterns...
mozilla is to slow
opera is quick but can not get into a lot of sites more than theyd
already bookmarked.
good luck
kenta
