what you are doing with your machine actualy makes more sense than what i am trying to do with mine. i am working with a 6360, using the PCI slot for an ATI rage 128 and a dvd decoder card snapped onto it, and having only the original onboard connectors for my dvd drive and no controller card. i am gonna try taking out the scsi cd rom, putting a scsi hard drive on that ribbon, and use the IDE ribbon that was originally for the internal hard drive, for an internal dvd drive.
the site that i have found has the most help in projects like this is xlr8yourmac.com people there have probably tried every variation conceivable , putting this brand of dvd in that mac with the other brand of controller card, mix and repeat. i get a lot of good ideas about compatibility over there. you can look up your particular mac and card, or just read up on what everybody else has tried. they post their successes as well as their failures, so you know in advance what doesnt work, either. and you'll get all kinds of links to s/w patches that help you over the humps when the stock configuration doesn't quite do it. janet http://community.webtv.net/mensabrains/BADCODE -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
