Baton Mail available from <http://www.mythtech.net/baton.html/> is an
application designed to provide a variety of authentication services for
older email programs that do not support authentication.

It runs as a small background application with a very low resource needs. It
seems a bit complex to configure, but the read me contains very explicit
instructions. It works fine with all versions of E-Mailer and with Cyberdog
and I am sure other email applications as well. As a bonus it is a "fat"
application and works well with the older 68K Macs as well.
