Baton Mail available from <http://www.mythtech.net/baton.html/> is an application designed to provide a variety of authentication services for older email programs that do not support authentication. It runs as a small background application with a very low resource needs. It seems a bit complex to configure, but the read me contains very explicit instructions. It works fine with all versions of E-Mailer and with Cyberdog and I am sure other email applications as well.
