No, it depends on what your goals are. If you are just toying around, there are plenty of things to try (I will leave it up to more informed folks). First stop, though: make sure you are not trying to install Jag (won't work on <= G3). If you are looking for a production-level machine, yeah, give it up. Depending on your needs, NetBSD or Yellow Dog Linux may be a better option for you (if you are looking for Unix under the hood). If you want X's lickable GUI, better go with a newer (or more upgraded) machine. OS X *will* work on a 604e at 200Mhz surprisingly well so long as you have an ATI Video card and plenty of RAM (from your indications you have ample of both) -- I've been there, done that. It was fun just to do, but ultimately not very productive.
