I'm by no means a pro, but I'd imagine Appletalk would have to be enabled for FIle Sharing to work. Are all the associated extentions on, such as users and groups? I don't know what would happen if you locked a volume that was supposed to be shared with read and write access. How does File Sharing react to desktop rebuilds? Have you rebuilt the desktop since your problems began? I'm not recommending it, as I have no idea what happens to the File Sharing preferences when that is done. The above ideas are just dung my slightly intoxicated brain came up with, they may or may not have anything to do with your problem. If no one comes up with better poop in the next day or so, I'll look through my library and see if I can come up with something better. Usually when I throw ideas out like that someone will respond with "you're an idiot" or "I just had that yesterday, and here is how I fixed it:" Hope this helps, J White Buy American S.O.S.
