Also, on my Mac running OS 8.6, I couldn't enter AppleTalk volume
passwords with a USB keyboard.  BootX (a Linux bootloader) also didn't
respond to keyboard input.

I solved the AppleTalk password problem by prepending a space to the
names of the 'USB Support' and 'USB Device Extension' extensions.
This made them load earlier than whichever extension is responsible
for mounting AppleTalk volumes.  It didn't fix the BootX problem,
though.
