Once removed, sort of, it is a PCI-powerMac after all.

The Beige G3 series doesn't take daughter cards, but ZIF cards, a small
card containing pretty much just the CPU.

It is simple to upgrade to a 266. Swap in a faster ZIF and set the
jumpers on the motherboard.

Cards meant for older 7/8/9x00 series systems will not work, but if you
want a 266-333 mhz original G3, ask on the swap list, you'll probably
get a bunch out of desk drawers and such real cheap, since upgrading
these systems to faster G3's and G4 cpu's is easy.

The G3: Faster 66 mhz bus, 2 built in IDE channels (though with a 233
it's certainly a Rev 1 system, which has issues with the IDE channels
accepting slave drives), 1 SCSI, only 3 ram slots, but they'll take up
to 256 meg SDRAM dimms for a total of 768 MB. Up to 6mb onboard VRAM.
It has 3 drive bays; one is at the bottom of the case under the two hdd
bays and CDrom.

the 8500: slower 50 mhz bus, no built-in IDE, 2 SCSI channels, 8 ram
slots, though limited to 128 mb 5V dimms, for a total of 1GB. 4MB
onboard VRAM.
