Hello,
Im new to this list (and macintosh), and till now I learned a lot about this stuff.
I have a Powermac 4400 with a 2 GB-Hd, and my question is whether I can install a second IDE-HD in the slot under the CD-Rom. I have another IDE-HD, so why not install it for backup of important files. I know that I have to change the ribbon cable from a one-connection- to a two-connection-solution. But does the computer accept this second HD (I can handle master-slave configuration) or is there only one HD permitted?
TIA , Guido
Sorry, no. The PM 4400 has the same problem as the other Macs that first had IDE in that they will not support slave drives. This is a problem in the ROM's, and can not be fixed in the 4400. What you can do is acquire an Apple ROM'd SCSI CD-ROM and use that in place of your IDE unit, then you can have 2 IDE HD's connected at the same time (one to each IDE channel). A good place for PM4400 info is the StarMax list (which uses the same MB as the 4400):

The list has much less traffic than this one, so it's not a big deal to be subscribed to. -- -- Mr. PopMan - [EMAIL PROTECTED] - "Does anybody want to play a game of pinball?" A journey may be long or short, but it must start at the very spot one finds oneself. Jim Stovall-The Ultimate Gift
