Short version:
I'm thinking of using my NEC MultiSync XV17+ monitor with my PowerMac
4400. I'm using a smallish (14"?) Apple monitor now but it's it's not
nearly as nice as the NEC.

I'm wondering about connecting the NEC to the Mac. I see Twin Turbo PCI
video cards on eBay all the time. Anything I should know before I buy
one for the 4400?

Longer version for those who might want more detail:
I inherited the 4400 from my wife when it failed to start up one day.
She replaced it with a new eMac. Thanks to the advice here, I replaced
the clock battery and brought it back to life.

I added 128 MB RAM and upgraded to OS 8.1 and it works great, better
than it ever did before. I'm remembering all the things I liked about
the Mac OS from my days with System 7, and I love the pop-up Finder
windows. I'm using the 4400 in my cabinet shop mostly to look up
details and dimensions on drawings made on my PC (PII 300mHz), although
I've started doing some drawing with it. I was able to get an old Mac
version of the CAD program I've been using on my PC for the last five
years or so, and the files are interchangeable. I also swap Excel
spreadsheets between the two computers. My synchronization technique
isn't very slick -- edit file, copy to floppy, stick floppy in shirt
pocket, try to remember to update on the other computer -- but it works,
when I remember to do it.

Anyway, I'd probably do more drawing on the Mac if I had a better
monitor. Bigger is the first concern, and higher resolution is next. I
don't play computer games, and rendering speed isn't a problem. The CAD
program (Vectorworks/MiniCad) does walk-throughs, flyovers, and
rendering, and the current configuration does all these things just
fine. I'd just like a little more room on-screen, and the Apple monitor
displays slightly angled lines as a series of parallel lines, due to the
lack of resolution, I suppose. I think the NEC would be a great
addition to a fine computer.

I'll shut up and listen now. Thanks.

Brent
