I figured out how to get the Mac to use the HP 4050 that I have connected to the network via the NetGear PS110 print server. If anyone is interested - here's how I did it.
I disabled NetBuei on the PS110 per Net Gear's suggestion, then used the HP Utility software to create a desktop printer as an LPR connection with the IP address of the NetGear PS110 and a Queue name of the printer attached to the print server (HP4050). I then made it the default and viola - I can print to the HP 4050 as a LaserWriter 8 device. It still doesn't show up in Chooser because it's not in one of the AppleTalk 'Zones', but that's OK, since I can print to it anyway. Isn't technology wonderful?
