The Mach V series moved the L2 cache from a motherboard slot to the
daughtercard for faster cache access. This makes the Mach V series not
interchangeable with earlier daughter cards.

The upgrade processor daughter card has to be set to compensate for the
difference in configurations. I've seen some G3/G4 cards that were Mach V or
pre Mach V specific and not interchangeable. Make sure you get one that
will work and if you sell your older daughterboard to offset some of the
cost, make sure you let the purchaser know that it will only work in a Mach
V motherboard. Using the wrong daughtercard can damage the daughtercard and
the motherboard.
