I fixed things by restarting and using a CD to start back up. Somewhere when
I was restarting, one of my hard drives went belly up. so I trashed the
prefs for the finder, monitors, system, etc and PRESTO life is good. 'Cept now I
had to reformat the drive and replace the data. Luckily I had MOST of it
backed up.

No I have nothing plugged into the AV ports. For now I'm just gonna leave it
alone.

Next question:
I wanna upgrade this 8500/120. I have heard some talk about an upper limit
on processor speed being 8 x the system bus. I seem to recall talk that the
system bus on an 8500 is 50 MHz. So 400MHz is the upper limit? Previously I
tested my system with a little program I found online (I lost it in the hard
drive fiasco and can't remember its name). It correctly reported the processor
speed but said the bus speed was 40 MHz. What's the deal?

As to video cards, Otherworldcomputing says that a ATI Radeon 7000 is for me.
But it requires System 9 (I think) and I don't wanna upgrade past 8.6. anybo
dy out there using a 7000 card with system 8.6 successfully? Would the ATI
RAGE 128 be the next best thing?

Thanks in advance.
