I'm not sure how much help this will be, but here goes... Desktop Print Monitor & Desktop Printer Spooler you can happily move to your disabled extensions as long as you are not using a printer icon on your desktop that you can drag files over to print(Desktop Printing). I haven't used them in ages. I believe Default Calibrator is used to 'sync' the color you see on the monitor with the available room light/print output planned. It is a part of ColorSync. Small, and as far as I can tell, as long as you have colorsync installed, it will be there, plus, possibly, other setting you would create. I do not have Display Library on my current machine, but if I were to guess, I would speculate that it is for a video card.
I'm a bit confused about your file size across drives question. Files can vary quite a range from my expreience based on a variety of factors [OS(8.x,9.x,etc), drive size(MB/GB), drive format (hfs/+/etc), contiguous free space available (not fragmented)]. I may have missed the point of the question but anyhow. You state that now other drives are freezing up also...I would start simple, check IDs and termination, check for virii (very unlikely, but worth a shot). Also, when you fresh install on your new HD, I'd just use another drive as the documents/applications drive whenever possible. Keep the system and basics/have to's only on the drive just to eliminate a few more confounding variables. ....
