There's been talk of modems and lightening and ports on PCI macs lately. I have a 7300 that had an external modem that stopped working after a very close lightening strike. Had to throw the modem out. The modem port would not then work with another good modem I bought. The new modem worked fine on the printer port. But then my laserwriter which needs appletalk would not work on the modem port! But an old deskwriter inkjet (with appletalk switched off) worked fine off this modem port. The only combination I could get by with. (I could use the laser printer when off-line on the printer port).
Always wondered if there is something simple I could do to repair the damage caused via the modem port - after all, it could not be that bad since it will run a printer not requiring appletalk. -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
