I really don't appreciate you being so ugly to me, seems you are just like the guys at Microsoft! All I asked you for was help as to why my PowerMac won't boot up a simple boot disk that it did fine 3 days ago?
I bought Macs to get away from the constant aggravation with having to "activate" certain windows OS to even use the blasted thing...Also because Macs are more stable and faster than my PCs of the same megahertz...I didn't even think you would curse me for a simple question as to direct-linking files to/from my Macs....All I asked was why my PowerMac won't boot up disks anymore...I didn't need your cursing and hateful remarks! Just a simple answer! [EMAIL PROTECTED], My method is simple....Here goes: **WARNING** Some Macs won't boot up this way! They will just give an error saying that "You need to use the latest installer to update the disk for said model!" I will not be held responsible for actions like these, which seem to only happen to me on my 68k models...Maybe this is what you refer to "blessing" the system to fix this??? sometimes Mac-addicts say to hack the installer, but I don't know??? If in doubt, keep the original system files in another folder, such as "Backup files"...And if it crashes, just reboot the boot disk, and drag them back to the system folder, after deleting the updated files first.... Here is what you need to upgrade OS via transferring the updated files from one Mac to another: * Zterm, any version * Printer cable, or any cable compatible with direct linking both Mac's modem/printer ports (It doesn't matter!) * That's it! Here are the configurations for Zterm, 1. Open Zterm on both computers 2. Go to Settings, Connection 3. Set a baud rate that works on BOTH Macs (some won't do any above 38400!) 4. Leave everything else alone on 'Connection' 5. Go to Settings, Modem preferences 6. Select the port you are using to direct-link, leave other settings at default 7. Boot up the Network Access Disk, Free from Apple's web site (for booting from a floppy, preferred method) on the destination Mac, otherwise when you overwrite files in use, you will either lock up the machine or get a bomb error! 8. Go to File, select Send Files, Xmodem 9. Select the first file to transfer, Finder, and select send, then select File on destination Mac, and select Recieve Xmodem, specify the root drive folder, NOT System folder, select receive, wait for an hour (yes, an hour!) 10. Repeat the same procedure for the "System Suitcase" a file labeled "System" located in the system folder which looks like a Suitcase....perhaps some Macs even have the icon as a suitcase with the MacOS logo. 11. Open system folder on destination Mac and drag "Finder" and the "System Suitcase" to the trash...Empty trash. 12. Drag the newly transferred files to the System folder, congrats! you just upgraded your Mac without having to order disks and pay shipping! (My town doesn't sell a lick of Mac stuff! Our only Apple dealer went out of business, and Staples got out of the Mac thing!) -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
