Last week I posted three times with the subject line " Mac Hell ". And a startup error very similar to this. I did extensive experimentation Over ten hours of extension twiddleing . Grievous angst over reformatting, installing and possible corruption of OS. I asked then if RAM chips could be a factor. Even though tests by three different programs said the memory was operating with no problems. and was fine.
This generated little interest here. I guess it was a busy weekend.
All of this was resolved with the installation of a single 128 Mb stick from OWC
to replace the same amount distributed over six SIMMs.
No more startup freezes. An end to constant crashing. Even Netscape is behaving !!!!!
I won't call it Mac Nirvana. But after a day of testing it's the smoothest Mac OS experience I have had in a very long time.
Now if it was easier to deal with the 8500 case layout I would test all of those other chips one at a time and pitch the bad ones.
