It would appear that way. Something is wrong with the install or a conflict someplace. I'm running v5.2.1 and it scrolls for me....
I might have to download again, which i hate... so knowing me, I'll put up with it until I can't STAND it any more!
Well, I'm using the Windows version, but I believe the option sets are the same.
Tools -> Options, to the Mailboxes option, and check the "Allow Drag Select of Messages"
I also seem to recall from when I kept my e-mail on my Macs that could hold down a bucky to drag select (forget which one though)

There's no Tools menu inthe Mac version. It's not the mailboxes acting up, but the individual messages. The mailbox menu scrolls fine (so far).
For selecting more than one message in a mailbox (by dragging down a column or clicking on separate messages) hold down the Command key.
