^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ The Nubus card is the way to go if you're looking for a serious speed boost. There are numerous flavors of G3 and G4 cards available and some happen to be quite cheap, ie Sonnet 266 G3. BTW don't spend any extra money on the 1MB cache variety as in real life it performs no different than the 512KB model[IMHO]. Getting one of these cards will also allow you to use the pass-through slot most of them have for adding a video card. Video cards that work in the 6100's come in 3 basic flavors: the AV card which originally came with the 6100/60 and 66 AV has 2Mb of vram onboard and offers in/out RCA connections for having some limited video fun if you're so inclined; the HPV 2MB that originally came with the 7100/60 and 66 has a whopping 1MB of vram onboard and 4 slots that will take 256KB vram simms for a grand total fo 2MB; and the big kahuna-the HPV 4MB originally used in the 8100AV. This card has 2MB onboard vram and 4 slots that take four 512MB vram simms. Installing a video card in these machines makes a big difference in performance. The 4MB HPV card will allow you to run up to a 21" monitor at 24 bit color. I have this setup with a Sonnet G3 card and it works quite well. This is a good site to visit for 6100 info: http://www.kan.org/6100/index.html ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I just tried to install OS 8.5 on a 6100/60. After restarting with the CD ROM, I started initializing the HD. Half way through, it locked up. After restarting, there was no HD on the desktop or in DriveSetup. I removed the HD and tried another one. Same thing happened. What happened to my HD? Can you install OS 8.5 on a 6100? ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I'm in digest mode so I imagine you have this sorted out already. Not sure what size HD is in your particular machine but the 6100's originally came with 250MB or 500MB. Upgrade to something bigger or you will find yourself running out of room very quickly just from the OS, a browser and a few other basics. Once you're running again I would suggest an upgrade from OS8.5 to the more stable OS8.6 [download from Apple]. And, like all this isn't enough get more ram. 128MB simms are available from Coast for around 25$. They work just dandy. ;-> AL -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
