There are a few sales going on right now for large drives ( >120gb ). What
kind of problems might I run into with an external firewire drive? Been
using an external Maxtor 80gb, was thinking about cracking the little
plastic case open and putting in something beefier! 200gb out of the
question? Primary OS is still 9.2.2.

The problem will not be the OS or Firewire, but the drive case itself. It may or may not support accessing drive space above 128GB. The only indicator might be if when you bought the case there was a version for sale with a drive larger than 128GB.
