I have a 200GB IDE drive I was going to slip into a firewire case but thought about getting a Sonnet Tempo Ultra133 card instead. The case is about the same price as the card, so I guess it boils down to which one is going to have the faster transfer rate (real world, not theoretical). All this in a maxed out Powermac 9600.
The limitation you are going to hit is the drive's speed rather than the interface. A single IDE drive is incapable of saturating either an ATA-133 or Firewire 400 interface. One place to check for speed tests is <http://www.barefeats.com/>
