this problem is about to drive me bonkers. Ok i have a 7300 g3 running os
9.1. for some odd reason it keeps going to sleep. i have deleted the
energy saver control panel and the related extensions but it still goes to
sleep. are there any OTHER extensions that control system sleeping?

Reinstall the energy saver bits, open the energy saver control panel set
it to never.

I had a drive doing something even more obnoxious in 8.6. It would go to sleep, and then freeze if any programs were up (well, not in every case, but if a Microsoft program were up, it would DEFINITELY freeze.) The funny thing was, there was no Engergy Saver control panel! So I installed OS 9.x and it now works fine.

The Energy Saver control panel is just that, the control panel. Take it away and it still sleeps according to previous settings.
