Subject: 9600s without video cards
Date: August 23, 2003

I've been given two 9600s without video cards (therefore I can't boot
them to check their condition); Does anyone have a couple of the old
Apple OEM TwinTurbo 8 MB VRAM PCI video cards, that they are not using
{don't need/want} and could spare?

Background: I seem to recall that the OEM card was listed variously as:

ixMicro (formerly "Integrated Micro Solutions, IMS")

TwinTurbo 128 video card

Twin Turbo 128M8A

Twin Turbo M8 card

tt128m

IMS,tt128mb8A Display controller: Integrated Micro Solutions Inc.
IMS9129 [Twin turbo 128] (rev 01)

<snip>
Twin Turbo 128M8 video card supports 100 Hz frame rate. The PowerMac
9600 has no built-in video, but comes with the ixmicro Twin Turbo128M8
video card installed in its PCI bus. You can determine which Twin Turbo
card you are using by a sticker on the card itself, or by inspecting the
connectors on the back of your Mac - the 128M8A will have a single port,
while the 128 will have two ports. ' Some 9600/350s and 9650/350s come
with the ATI 3D graphics card instead of the IMS TwinTurbo 128. See the
internal of a 9600 and a 9650 with the ATI card to compare. There was
even an Apple Addendum insert in the document box informing of the
change.

Needed Mac OS Extension was:

IXMicro "9600 Graphics Accelerator" (version 4.06)?

Which provided:

"QuickTime Acceleration support and includes a number of fixes,
including the disappearing cursor problem in MacroMedia DreamWeaver, the
missing bounding boxes in Microsoft Word, distortions in Mini-Cad, and a
crash in Quark Xpress. In addition, this fixes the font irregularities
when using Adobe Type Manager and certain applications, most notably
Filemaker Pro, Claris E-mailer, and Netscape Navigator."

Or a SONY GDM-W900 TwinTurbo 128M8S Monitor Mac OS extension:

Which "once-upon-a-time" was posted at ixMicro :

<snip>
(This driver can only be run on super resolutions versions of the Twin
Turbo carrying the 'S' designation.) If you are using a TwinTurbo128M8S
supporting SONY GDM-W900 Monitor, please download the driver below.

Macintosh, version 4.0.6
