I have had 128 MB 2k sticks that - on their own - seemed to work fine and pass Gauge Pro tests and ordinary (quick) start up memory tests but had this one curious effect of spoiling any hot restart (either from Special/Restart or from Restart in the dialog that comes up when keyboard start/shut buttom is pressed). I'd love to have some sort of explanation. Peter, when you say you test thoroughly, what exactly? I have this Gauge Pro but it does not say for how many "passes" you need, to be confident. The stick that caused the no-hot-restart went for over 100 passes. Perhaps this is not thorough enough to unearth a fault? But the hot restart function sure homes in real quick on this fault! Perhaps it is some curious mismatch between the G3 upgrades, clocks, buses, refresh rate and well, who knows? Recently I checked every single chip in both my machines and tossed any that failed *either* the Gauge Pro after about 100 passes (the ones that faulted always showed up in the first few passes) or a hot restart. And my machines sing are working very sweetly since ... -- PCI-PowerMacs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
