Hi All,
I've upgraded my ram to 704mb on our 9600/G4/400. The video card has been
upgraded to a Radeon 7000. My sons want to try and run Warcraft III on it,
which we know it's going to be borderline as far as performance. Anyway
Every time we launch WCIII we get an OpenGL error. We checked and it's the
latest version but we downloaded it anyway and reinstalled it. Still we get
the OpenGL error. We're running OS 9.1 so we thought upgrade to 9.2.1 or
maybe 9.2.2., which I believe was one of the recommendations of Blizzard. I
already had 9.2.2 and I downloaded OS9helper which requires 9.2.1 and either
stop there or go ahead and upgrade to 9.2.2. We downloaded 9.2.1 and as
soon as it downloaded and unstuffs we got a "Can not use 9.2.1 error Type
-127" and I had a devil of a time getting it to go away. I had to be very
fast while dragging it to the trash to get rid of it without having this
error window popping up again. Anyway we downloaded 9.2.1 twice to no
avail. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had all sorts of stability issues when I upgraded my Radeon 7000 equipped 8600 to OS 9.2.2. After a while, I gave up and went back to OS 9.1 but then, using TomeViewer, I extracted all the OpenGL bits from the OS 9.2.2 updater and used them to replace the OpenGL bits that were installed by OS 9.1.

This was back in April or May and, so far, everything seems to be running fine. Am I getting optimum 3D rendering? I don't know, I don't do much gaming, to be honest but I have had no OpenGL errors since I did this.

hth,

John
