I want to get a beige G3 and was wondering how much upgrading can be done to these. ie: where does the HD max out at? How much CPU can I put in (how far up does it go in MHz?)? Will it take a G4? Is it a ZIF socket? How much RAM? What kind of RAM does it take? Thanks for any help.

Hi, emailing from a Beige G3, 233, 128mb RAM, OSX JAGUAR, 4Gig HD. Yes, they do take any zif and yes you can put a G4 in it, though I have never tried. You can pretty much put any IDE Hard Drive in it, just format it for mac os. I use 4gig internal, but I have a snappy 9 gig external drive. I also run a firewire/usb2.0 card from macally that is fully functional, especially in OSX. Beware, though, if you want to run Mac OSX, I suggest upgrading the CPU because it is pretty slow. I originally bought this mac from ebay in 2000 and have had NO trouble since! No scratches or case problems, either. Upgrading RAM is real easy, the case is designed to come off without unscrewing any screws. Forget what kind of ram it uses though I did upgrade it to 128mb at one time to run OSX Jaguar. Very happy with this machine. If you decide to get one, you too will be happy :)
