Hi:

When you make changes in your template documents, do you lock them so that
only certain fields can be populated or do you just generally save them?

Word recently default saves everything as a template. The reasoning is
verbose. Just make sure that, when you save your documents, you save them as
a word document and in another name, not the template name. Also, when you
save, check your save options menu.

Let me know whether this helped you or not.
