This is probably true of 9.2.2 running as Classic under OS X, but I'm fairly certain it's not true of a hacked 9.2.2 running on its own. I have such a system at work (with a G3 300 in it) and I have both played back from VCR and digitized video from my analog 8mm camcorder onto the 8500.

There are two reasons I can think of why A/V might not work under Classic.

First, hardware not supported by OS X tends not to work under Classic. For example, the Stealth serial port on my B&W G4 (upgraded) will not work with serial printers under Classic (or OS X). It works find under native OS 9.2.2.

Second, unless you're using a hacked install of 9.2.2 as Classic, then you will have only a pure 9.2 installation. PCI Mac A/V isn't supported under a 9.2 clean install, as those machines aren't supposed to be able to use it. With the hacked 9.2.2, you have to start with 9.1 and upgrade to 9.2.1 and then 9.2.2. Support for A/V is still there after the upgrade.

I just read on the UnsupportedOSX list that the A/V on the 8500 and similar models doesn't work under OS 9.2.2. Does anyone know anything about this? (I was going to search the archive but I couldn't figure out a reasonable combination of search terms.)
