Sound Problems

After upgrading to OS 9.2.2 on my FrankenMac (8600/9600 Mother 
Board/xlr8G3-300Mhz/1.5GB RAM/36GB Fujitsu HD) thanks to OWC's OS9 
Helper, I now find I have issues with sound. Namely, the Sound Control 
Panel does not work. Alert sounds will not play, main volume cannot be 
set (slider resets to lowest level after adjustment), nothing shows up 
in either the input or output tabs, and the speakers tab shows two 
built-in speakers (left and right) and a lot of extra sliders, which 
have no speakers/headphones associated with them. I have a pair of Altec 
Lansing speakers connected to the output jack on the back of the computer.

The volume control module on the Control Strip does not work, either; it 
resets to the lowest level regardless of the volume level selected.

Sound (for example, from a game CD in the CD-ROM) plays through both the 
built-in speaker and the outboard speakers, but other than the volume 
control on the outboard speakers, I have no control over sound output. 
Unplugging the outboard speakers has no effect. I have trashed the sound 
preferences with no effect.

Any clues, anyone?
