I used to get the same freezeups everytime I forget to depress the CUDA
switch when exchanging cpu cards or reinstalling the same card. But if you
did press the CUDA switch and the system froze restart with extensions off
and trash your ASLM, Finder, Mac OS and System preferences. Restart
normally.
