So I flashed the PRAM on my PM G4, no big deal right? Yeah, well, the little guy decided OS X just wasn't going to boot anymore. After learning more than I would like about Open Firmware (in an attempt to tell it to boot OS X, it refused) I decided to reload. Then it hit me. Why don't I grab some old HD laying around and put X on that and then change the start up disk to my old HD. Well, you learn every day! Now it works.
My question: Why did zapping the PRAM revert back to the old blinking ? and happy Mac face characteristic of classic? Why couldn't I find anything online about Open Firmware that wasn't extremely vague? No command lists, no explanation of what "Apple" Open Firmware is, does, etc. I did find out about Linux, Sun, and Unix open Firmware though. Eh, such is life.
