Me,
Actually I heard a rumor that they were porting it for x86 about month ago. I have no idea of the validity, but it sounds logical. I'd even "buy" that one.
Thanks for the info!

Actually rumors of 'Apple is porting the Mac OS to X86' have been around almost as long as the 'Disney is going to buy Apple' rumors.

Apple is a *hardware* company. They make their profit selling *computers*. They compete with HP, Dell, Gateway.

Get yourself into Bart mode and write that down on the blackboard about a thousand times.

Apple sells computers. They use OSX as the sweetener to do so.
They sell iPods, they use the iTunes Music Store as sweetener to do so.

They are NOT a software company, despite the fact that a huge chunk of their R&D goes into software development, and they're the second largest vendor of personal computer OS'es in the world after Microsoft. (a very *distant* second!) The money for *all* that R&D comes from selling computers.

It's all about the boxes.

Microsoft makes it's money as pretty much a pure software company because they get a piece of virtually all the hardware action in the world...every freakin' PC sold, practically, comes with a Microsoft Tax, the licencing fees the manufacturer pays Microsoft to install Windows whether or not the end user keeps windows or not.

Apple would go under selling OSX alone as an OS, because then they're right there in the pit with Microsoft.
