I have a powermac 8500 running 8.5 w/ a 200mhz 604e processor. I am trying
to run a shareware cd from a macaddict magazine and most of the programs are
in .dmg format. My mac wont recognize them. Is there some kind of driver or
extension I need?? Thanx. ~ Ben ~

While it's not always the case, the vast majority of .dmg files are OS X Disk Image files containing Mac OSX programs.

Some of these programs may be carbonized and run on both X and classic mac OS'es.

You'll need (at least) to upgrade to 8.6, install the latest version of CarbonLib, and Disk Copy to mount these and see if they'll work.

many of the ones of classic os'es won't because you need at least OS 9 to run them.
