OK, this is interesting.
I sent the list a message last week about a G3 AIO I bought on Ebay. The power supply was dead, and I replaced it. When testing it with the cover off, it worked perfectly. The video output was flawless. I put the cover back on, and the video was really dark and splotchy... barely readable.
One of the list suggested I might have bumped one of the video settings knobs when putting the cover back on.
So I disassemble the Mac, and turn it on, and the video is perfect again!!! With no adjustments!
I reassemble it, piece by piece with the power on. Video is still fine. Gte the whole thing together, and look away for a couple of minutes, and the video is terrible again.
So I think... something is heating up and failing.. I let the Mac cool down overnight, just to be absolutely sure... I boot it up... the video is still terrible...
Any ideas?
When you let it cool overnight and turned it on assembled was the poor picture quality immediate? If a component is failing after heating up it seems you would have a good picture for at least a few seconds. Is there any sign of arcing?
The only other thing I can think of is that when everything is reassembled and tightened down it places pressure on something--a bad solder joint or...?
