I recently sent my dad a Color Stylewriter 4500 to use with his 8500 (OS
8.1, 120Mhz, 80M RAM, 1.2G HD). The printer is not working, though it
worked fine on my 7300 (OS 8.0, 200Mhz, 1.2G HD) before I sent it. The
problem is I don't recall what exactly I did to get it running. I only
sent him a black cartridge, as the color cartridge, and the "original"
black cartridge I received with the printer were both dry.

Does the printer need both cartridges installed to work? I can't recall
if I tried it on my machine with just the black one in it or not. I'm
reluctant to tell him to buy a color cartidge to find out, since the
printer did just arrive after a 2100 mile journey, and is quite possibly
not working any longer.

Also, does anyone know if the driver version 1.03 will work with OS 8.1?
I saw that OS 9.1 has its own driver for this printer (on my install CD),
and its read me file stated not to use that driver with earlier OS's. I
also downloaded the update version 1.1, but its read me said it was
pretty much for beige G3's with low memory problems. I also know the
driver version I sent with the printer worked on the 7300, as I didn't
download the updated driver until after my dad called back stating he was
having problems.

Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, on or off list.

Thanks,

J White
