I'm sure you can burn any CD with your burner. Remember that your viewers will have PCs not Macs (it is a proven fact that very few married couples or their families have Macs) so you need to burn for cross platform (Use the ISO 9660 format).
As for how to make your presentation... You can do it in Flash, in Quicktime. You can probably do it in PowerPoint which is well suited for presentations. You can also do it browser based, ie. making a web page or a series of pages. Double clicking on one icon will open the index or "home" page and from there on, all sorts of things are possible. Either users can click a button or link to go forward to the next page and image or it goes automatically using javascript commands and such. If it shows in IE as you like it, it will show on most folk's machines. I would go the browser, HTML, javascript route myself (within which method one can also use Quicktime, flash etc if needed).
