IF..., the problem is bad sectors then low level format is only a Band-Aid
approach as the disk medium slowly decendigrates like cancer spreading. >>

Is this true?

In my experience this so called "band aid" solution has been working for me
for at least 4-5 years on my old Quantum Fireball ST4.3S. Maybe I'm just lucky?

When I purchased this used drive many years ago it had problems. A low level
format found a number of bad blocks and "fixed" them -- according to low level
formatting software. And it has worked without problems since. I'm using it
now in the system I'm writing this post.

In addition I have used various low level formatting utilities to fix a
number of problems with removable media as well, YMMV.

I agree "Religious" back ups, are necessary, I do them daily; no particular
religion, however. Agnostic or Atheist backups are also recommended :-).

I do acknowledge the concerns of low level formatting expressed, however, my
experiences (so far) has been far different. Any other "testimonials" about
low level formatting?
